VDS printer setup & label design

Printer types in VDS

You can use two types of printers in the VDS:

• Label printer - dedicated to printing meal labels - Zebra printers only
• Receipt printer - for printing receipts for the kitchen - general printer device

The application offers previews of both, which can be generated only after the related printing device has been set up.

Activating the printing features

As a first step, you need to activate the respective printing features (label, receipt):

1. Navigate to the Settings (main menu) and select Customization.
2. Scroll down and search for the printer type you want to activate (label, receipt) and select it.
3. Select the checkbox to activate the feature. For label printer, more fields will unfold below. In the case of receipt printer, a printer setup popup will show. 

Setting up the label printer

Label printer is configured in the following steps:

1. Select the connection type and click the "Automatic printer discovery" to search for the printer. If the printer is found, it will be set up automatically. 
2. If the first step fails, try to enter its address manually:
   • IP address for WIFI connection
   • Bluetooth address for Bluetooth connection - can be found on the printer device.
3. If the device is still not discovered, ensure it is powered up, connected to the network (Wifi connection), and within the range of the device.
4. You can verify the connection using the test print feature.

Setting up the receipt printer

 Receipt printer is configured in the following steps:

1. In the receipt printer setup popup, start by selecting the printer brand and model.
2. Select the connection type.
3. Based on the connection type, enter the address in the next step. Alternatively, you can try to search for the printer using the address search feature. 
4. To finish the setup, click the "Set" button.

Your printer is now set up with additional customization available.

Label & receipt design

Both label and receipt designs can be customized and specific data displayed. Label can be designed in the Label printer section selecting the Label customization menu link. Receipt and kitchen receipt are both accessed through the Receipt printer settings (Receipt design and Kitchen receipt design).

Both have an identical designing interface offering the following features:

1. Data sets to be activated.
2. Each data set's settings to be tailored.
3. Preview of the receipt.
4. The "Set" and "Reset" buttons to take required action.

Play around with the settings to achieve the required design. You can start over using the "Reset" button. If you are happy with the design, click "Set" to apply the changes. You should always test-print to verify the layout and data displayed. 

We always recommend test printing after every change made to the printer settings or design. This is to ensure everything works as expected and labels/receipts are printing correctly.
